The short version
Your face is measured in your browser. If you are not signed in, no photograph is ever uploaded. If you are signed in and photo storage is on, your photographs and the landmark mesh from them are stored so you can open a scan on another device. You can switch that off and delete everything with two clicks in settings.
What is stored
- Measurements
- The twenty-two frontal measurements, the ten side measurements, the four pillars and your overall score, for every scan you take while signed in. These are numbers. They are what your history, your comparisons and your percentile are built from.
- Photographs
- The front photograph and, if you took one, the side photograph. Stored only for signed-in accounts with photo storage switched on, in a private bucket that is not publicly readable. They are served to you through links that expire after an hour and cannot be shared or guessed.
- The landmark mesh
- The 478 points located on your front photograph, including any you dragged yourself. Stored alongside the photograph and for the same reason: it is what lets a saved scan redraw exactly what you saw. Treated as sensitive in exactly the same way.
- Account details
- Your email address, your password (hashed, never in readable form), and whichever of the three optional questions you answered: age band, background, and which population your measurements are compared against. Those three exist only to pick a percentile group and can be cleared at any time.
- Payments
- Whether you have an active plan, and the Stripe identifiers needed to manage it. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach us.
Why this counts as sensitive
A photograph of a face and a landmark mesh taken from it are biometric data under the UK and EU GDPR, and under laws such as the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. That is why storing them is optional, why it is off unless you have an account and have accepted the terms, and why it can be revoked. Consent is the lawful basis, and consent you cannot withdraw is not consent.
Who else sees it
Supabase hosts the database and the file storage. Stripe processes payments. Nobody else. We do not sell data, we do not share it with advertisers, we do not use your photographs to train any model, and there is no third-party analytics or advertising tracker on this site.
How long it is kept
Measurements are kept until you delete the scan or your account. Photographs and landmark meshes are kept until you delete them, delete the scan, or delete your account, whichever comes first. Switching photo storage off stops new uploads immediately; deleting what is already stored is a separate button next to it, so that turning it off does not destroy anything by surprise.
What you can do
- Switch photo storage off, from account settings.
- Delete every photograph and mesh already stored, from account settings.
- Clear the three comparison-group answers, from account settings.
- Delete your account, which deletes all of the above.
- Ask for a copy of what is held about you.
Children
LooksRatio is not for under-13s and accounts are not knowingly created for them. If you believe a child has an account here, tell us and it will be removed.
Changes
If what is stored or who it is shared with changes, the version at the top of this page changes, and you will be asked to accept the new terms rather than being moved onto them quietly.
